Czarina Baltazar Pasugnod-Cariño: From Childhood Illness to Broadcasting Success Through Faith, Family, and Perseverance

Some people achieve success because opportunities come easily. Others achieve success because they refuse to stop moving forward, no matter how difficult the journey becomes. The story of Czarina Baltazar Pasugnod-Cariño belongs to the latter.
Long before she became a familiar voice on the radio, she was a young girl fighting a serious kidney illness. Long before she became a respected broadcaster, she was a student leader, singer, actress, writer, and public speaker whose talents continued to flourish despite life’s challenges. Long before she became a devoted mother of three, she learned that faith, family, and perseverance often become a person’s greatest sources of strength.
Her journey has never been defined by comfort or convenience. Instead, it has been shaped by faith during uncertainty, courage during adversity, and determination during seasons of sacrifice. Today, her story stands as a powerful reminder that success is not measured by how easy life becomes, but by how courageously a person continues moving forward despite every obstacle.
Early Life: A Childhood Filled with Love and Courage
Born on May 6, 1989, in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Czarina grew up in a close-knit family that valued faith, education, and hard work. As the first grandchild, she received abundant love and guidance from her grandparents, particularly her grandmother, who played a central role in her upbringing while her parents worked to support the family.
Her childhood was filled with warmth and happy memories. However, life took an unexpected turn when she was only six years old. Doctors diagnosed her with nephrotic syndrome, a kidney disorder that required treatment, medication, and constant monitoring.
The illness brought uncertainty and fear, yet it also revealed a strength that would define her future. Rather than allowing illness to limit her potential, she continued pursuing her studies and developing her talents.

Even while managing her health condition, she excelled in singing, acting, public speaking, drawing, and leadership. Teachers quickly recognized her potential, and she soon became one of the most active students in school.

Discovering Her Calling in Communication
Raised in a devout Catholic family, Czarina initially dreamed of becoming a nun. Church activities played an important role in her upbringing, and she admired the dedication of priests and religious sisters.
As she grew older, however, another calling began to emerge. Invitations to host events, participate in programs, and perform before audiences revealed her passion for communication and storytelling.
Determined to pursue that passion, she enrolled at Northwestern University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication. She also became a contributor to The Review, the university publication, where she gained valuable experience in writing and media work.
Life’s Turning Points
Life presented challenges that tested her emotionally and personally. The loss of a beloved aunt deeply affected her and taught her the value of time, family, and meaningful relationships.
She also experienced disappointments and difficult lessons about trust and friendship. Rather than allowing those experiences to discourage her, she used them as opportunities for growth and maturity.

Motherhood became one of the most transformative chapters of her life. Supported by her parents and strengthened by her faith, she remained determined to provide a better future for her children.
Building a Career in Broadcasting
After years of perseverance, Czarina achieved her dream of working in radio broadcasting. She joined Love Radio Laoag, where she developed a loyal following among listeners and refined her skills as a broadcaster.
Her career later led her to 103.9 iFM Baguio City, where she continued to connect with audiences through her authenticity, warmth, and professionalism.

Like many media personalities, she experienced both praise and criticism. Nevertheless, she viewed every challenge as an opportunity to grow and improve.
Faith, Family, and Personal Values
Throughout every chapter of her life, faith has remained her foundation. She credits God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the prayers of her family for helping her navigate life’s challenges.

She believes humility is the foundation of character. For her, success is not measured solely by awards or recognition, but by integrity, gratitude, and the ability to remain grounded.
Looking Toward the Future
Today, Czarina continues to pursue personal and professional growth while focusing on her greatest priority: her three sons.
She hopes to see them complete their education, pursue meaningful careers, and build lives guided by compassion, responsibility, and purpose.

A Legacy of Resilience and Hope
The little girl who once battled nephrotic syndrome grew into a woman who refused to allow adversity to define her future. The student who excelled in leadership, music, writing, public speaking, and the arts fulfilled her dream of becoming a broadcaster. The mother who faced life’s uncertainties discovered strength through faith, perseverance, and unconditional love for her family.
Today, her story continues to inspire others—not only through her voice on the airwaves, but through the example she sets as a woman who transformed challenges into opportunities, setbacks into lessons, and dreams into reality.
Her journey reminds us that success is not measured by how many times we fall, but by how many times we rise again. Through faith, family, resilience, and unwavering determination, Czarina Baltazar Pasugnod-Cariño continues to prove that every challenge can become part of a greater purpose.
